Easy Breakfast Dosa

I love dosa. But it's not something I grew up eating. So dosa has always been a special treat for me. Dosas are basically a savoury pancake with a slightly tangy flavour. And since I prefer my breakfasts savoury over sweet, this breakfast dosa is perfect! While my home made version isn't as dramatic as [...]

Did your mom tell you drinking cold drinks on a co Did your mom tell you drinking cold drinks on a cold day would make you catch a cold? 🙄 I feel like that one still gets passed down in most brown households. 😛⁣

I love ice cream and milkshakes on a cold day! 🍦☃️And I’m still here - alive and well - to talk about it! Like drinking the chai shake from @chachischai
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
We tried:⁣
➡️mango falooda - it’s like the desi version of bubble tea!🙌🏽⁣
➡️ chai shake - the perfect mix of chai flavours ⁣
➡️ Kashmiri khawa♥️ - a very light and floral flavoured hot tea with nuts. This one is my fave! (It’s basically the reason I created my own version on the blog- for when I can’t drive all the way to buy some!)⁣

I mean, I’m not telling my west enders to break the stay-at-home order and drive east to grab something from here. But if you happen to have a hankering for some yummy fusion Pakistani eats and treats while you just happen to be in your car, driving to the east end - Then you should def drive past @chachischai and pick up something! 😉 I haven’t tried their food yet. It looks great - so hopefully on my next visit to the east end of the city! 😄⁣

Today’s Monday mask is from @eluobeauty - the forma rosea clay mask. Made with colloidal clay it promises to gently draw impurities from pores, even skin tone and stimulate circulation to promote natural regeneration of skin.⁣⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣⁣⁣
The powder formulation feels very luxurious. You have to make your mask by mixing the powder with some water. And the spread it in your face with a mask brush to be extra fancy!😛⁣⁣
⁣
Recommended for: oily skin⁣ (watch out if you’re sensitive to clay!)⁣⁣
Price:$⁣$⁣⁣
✅Pros: clay is a great to remove excess oil and dirt. Great for maskne!⁣ A little goes a long way so it will last you forever!⁣⁣
⛔️Cons: can be quite harsh for some. Recommend you do a patch test first!⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣⁣
Overall I don’t love clay masks. I find them very drying for my skin. And my skin seems to have a bit of a reaction to clay. It tingles and turns red! Unfortunately this mask was no exception. While my skin felt really clean after, it also felt dry and tingly all over. J also noticed some increased redness after he used it, but the redness went away pretty quickly.⁣⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣⁣
It’s too bad, I really do think that clay can do wonders for your skin. Just not for my skin🤷🏽‍♀️ ⁣⁣

Reality check: Feeling like you’ve hit that pand Reality check: Feeling like you’ve hit that pandemic wall yet?😳⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
It’s been hitting me hard this week😫. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
I’ve being going non-stop hard at work since October (yes even through Christmas and New Years!).⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
The Covid numbers keep going up and pandemic restrictions seem to change by the minute!⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
After 6 years of being able to maintain, I’m suddenly 12 lbs heavier than I was this time last year. I thought I had it all figured out but now I’m like wtf?!😢 Is it the pandemic? Is it my slowing metabolism? Or something more worrying? ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Apparently I carry all my stress in my neck and shoulder so this week my entire right side feels like it’s about to fall off. 😬⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
And then throw in the usual sprinkle of insomnia, exhaustion, general lack of motivation... ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
I think this is what they call burn out?🤔⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
This girl needs a vacay. But you know, Pandemic!😢⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
So I’ll just sit here by the window in my mismatched sweats, greasy hair, no makeup, with a heating pad on my shoulder, hoping for a sliver of sunshine between conference calls. 🏖 ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
At least I can say it’s Friday! So there’s that. 🙌🏽⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
How’s your week been? What are you doing to avoid pandemic burnout? Help a girl out!🥺⁣

Kashmiri Khawa☕️ - it’s like green tea’s d Kashmiri Khawa☕️ - it’s like green tea’s desi relative. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Inspired by a Kashmiri khawa I had at a restaurant recently, it’s like a lightly spiced and floral green tea. Flavoured with saffron and rose water this is the perfect end to a heavy meal. Or just when you want to fancy up your green tea. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Ingredients:⁣
3 cups water⁣
1 cardamom pod⁣
1 small cinnamon stick⁣
1 clove⁣
1 pinch saffron⁣
2-3 dried rose buds or petals (I found rosebud tea on amazon)⁣
1 tsp Kashmiri tea leaves (or green tea leaves)⁣
1 tbsp rose water⁣
Chopped nuts & honey to taste ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Bring water and spices to a boil. Turn off the heat and add the tea leaves and allow to steep for 3 minutes. Strain. Add a splash of rose water and serve with a touch of honey and chopped nuts if desired. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Enjoy!☕️⁣ Have you had Kashmiri khawa before?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
After being shutdown since March, we found out our fave dosa mom and pop shop opened up again for takeout only, so ofcourse we had to scratch that dosa itch...⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
We ordered:⁣
➡️ onion rava - for those that like things extra crispy! (That’s me!🙋🏽‍♀️ - swipe to hear that crunch!👀)⁣
➡️ Mysore masala dosa - for the 🔥🔥🔥 lovers (thats J!😛)⁣
➡️ mini idly with sambhar - my all time fave. I could eat an entire order myself!⁣
➡️mango lassi - perfect to cool off the 🔥⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Taste: 👍🏽👍🏽⁣
Service: 👋🏽 (meh- just for the crazy convoluted pickup process. And they lose points for using styrofoam packaging 😢)⁣
Price: $⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Overall:⁣
I like how you can customize your dosa order by changing the amount of oil, spice or ingredients used. Their online order system on the website worked well. But you will have to go pick it up yourself. They don’t do delivery. And you will go through a 3-step verification process to get to your food starting with a super secure intercom checkin at the door!😂. It’s probably the most Covid-safe pickup we’ve seen so far! The dosas don’t come in those big fancy rolls like the do when you dine in, but they are delicious!👍🏽⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Dosa craving satisfied!👍🏽⁣

If you’re not face-masking and watching #thebach If you’re not face-masking and watching #thebachelor on a Monday what are you doing with your life?😝🌹💁🏽‍♀️⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Incase you didn’t know I’m a bit of a skincare junky. So I’m going to start sharing the face masks I like to use each Monday along with my honest review of what I think of the product. I like to share things I have used a few times so I can give you a proper review. Oh and I bought with my own money - So you know there’s no bias!😛⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Today’s Monday mask is from @youthtothepeople - Power of Dreams Kit Which I bought from @sephoracanada . It comes with two products that you layer:⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
➡️ A lactic/glycolic acid exfoliant toner which you rub all over clean skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel sticky. ⁣
➡️ Followed by a hydrating overnight mask which contains antioxidants and vitamin C for that smooth glowy skin 🙌🏽. It didn’t feel too greasy or sticky when on the skin. But definitely feels super hydrating. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Despite the name, it did not give me powerful dreams. But it did leave my skin feeling awesome!🙌🏽😝⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Overall I love this combo. And I find it works really well for these dry winter nights. I woke up the next morning thirsty AF, but with very hydrated skin!😛 ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Recommended for: dry to combo skin⁣
Price:$⁣
✅Pros: fragrance free, contains good exfoliants. Hydrating without being oily. ⁣
⛔️Cons: clear packaging means you need to keep it out of sunlight to ensure the effectiveness of the ingredients. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Have you tried this combo? What do you think? Or is there a mask you want me to try? I’ll be your guinea pig! Let me know!⬇️⁣

Veg Manchurian Pakora - paleo & keto friendly!👌 Veg Manchurian Pakora - paleo & keto friendly!👌🏽⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
My love for Hakka food runs deep. But so does my waistline right now, and in an effort to clean up my act I’m attempting to make healthier versions of some of my fave takeout meals. Starting with these Hakka manchurian veg pakoras. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Essentially a Hakka version of veggie meatballs this one checks all the boxes for food preferences - gluten free, dairy free, vegan. What more could you want? Oh yeh and like always - it is delish!👌🏽⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
The pakora can be made the original way (with plain flour) or try my gluten free version. Both recipes are on the blog. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
A great fridge clean out meal - I made these pakoras from veggies I had in my fridge: cabbage, carrots, green onions, and kale. They taste good just as they are or add the super simple Manchurian sauce.⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
The Manchurian sauce is so basic. All you need is: 1 diced onion, 1 tsp minced ginger, 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 diced green chilli, 1/4 tsp Chinese five spice powder (I make my own - that recipe is posted too), pinch of red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/4 cup coconut aminos (or soy sauce), 1-2 tsp hot sauce. That’s it!🙌🏽 ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Sauté the onions, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Add the spices and coconut aminos. Add a splash of water to get to desired amount of sauce. Bring to a boil and done! Try the sauce with any protein you like (save this recipe for later trust me!)👍🏽⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Is there a takeout meal that you wish could be made healthier? Let me have it maybe I can give it a healthy spin? ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣

Since we are stuck indoors for the foreseeable fut Since we are stuck indoors for the foreseeable future and ordering takeout is the only fun we have left in life, I thought every Wednesday (which also happens to be #takeoutday ) I would share a fave local takeout spot. So you too can get all dressed up and excited to order in and eat at home too! 😛 ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Recently we tried @naanandchaitoronto - Just take all your fave desi (and some not so desi) meals and stuff it into a naan. Like a desi quesadilla! 🙌🏽⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
They just opened a new location in ‘ssauga and it did not disappoint! We will definitely be going back! ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
We tried:⁣
➡️Bihari kebab naan - 🔥🔥🔥⁣
➡️Tandoori chicken naan- my fave!♥️⁣
➡️Saffron karak chai - this was a fave too! Loved the hint of saffron! 🙌🏽♥️⁣
➡️Kashmiri chai - found this a bit milky. But good flavour. ⁣
➡️ Sauces: roasted garlic mayo, mint and coriander, chilli garlic oil, mango salsa⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Taste: 👍🏽👍🏽⁣
Service: 👍🏽👍🏽⁣
Price: $$⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Overall: ⁣
It’s worth a try if you like fusion desi foods. I found it very filling (one stuffed naan lasted me two meals. But J polished the whole thing off in one sitting). They even have some interesting sounding dessert stuffed naans! And a few of veggie options too! This location doesn’t have as big a menu as the downtown location, so I missed out on trying okra fries (Hopefully soon!). The only negative I would say for me personally is that I wish there was a bit of salad served with the stuffed naans then it would feel more like a full meal.⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Have you tried a stuffed naan aka desi quesadilla before? ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
I’m also taking suggestions for next week... where should we order from next?😁⁣
