Hi! I’m Rue. Thanks for stopping by!
I live in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) with my husband, J, and fur baby, Mogo Cat. Both of whom love to make frequent appearances in my pictures and social media.
I am a busy lawyer working in-house at a real estate developer. When I’m not working at my day job, and maybe even some days when I am at work, I am thinking about food. What to eat, cook, and more recently, sharing that deliciousness with others.
Over the past year I’ve started to really pay attention to what I put in and on my body. And it’s really changed the way I look and feel. For the better.
As much as I love food, I also believe that health and nutrition are very important and under-taught. I came out of university doing the usual yo-yo dieting and exercising to find that perfect balance. I thought, if I worked out it really doesn’t matter what I ate as long as the calories in were less than the calories out. It worked for a while. But then I turned 30 and it was like a switch was triggered and my old habits just didn’t work. The weight piled on and life got busy. My career started to grow, I went through a couple of unsuccessful rounds of IVF, and just got plain busy. I chalked it up to my slowing metabolism and basically gave up on losing that dreaded ‘middle-age chub’ and left it at that.
In March 2018, my husband and I did our first Whole30, mostly as a way to find out what foods were triggering his IBS symptoms. But I ended up finding out that dairy and lentils were difficult for me to digest too! As a side effect of eating clean, he lost 15lbs (6.5kg) and I lost 5lbs (2kg). No small feat for my petite 5ft0in (153cm) frame! But the real change was in how I felt and the shape of my body. Less bloated, more muscle tone, clearer skin. I feel much more confident and in control of my body now. And all I did was change the way I ate!
I went from drinking a glass of milk a day to being (almost) dairy free! I still love my comfort foods. I mean, if mom’s makes her biryani there is no way I will refuse a plate of that! But that won’t stop me from replicating the flavours in a low carb cauliflower rice version.
This site is a compilation of everything I have, and still am, learning on my journey to re-discovering my health through food and health. I focus on mostly paleo and whole30 compliant recipes that are quick and easy, because this girl has a day job so I don’t have time to slave in the kitchen everyday. But most importantly, it has to be delicious.
Because being healthy doesn’t have to mean being boring!
Go ahead, poke around for a bit, I hope you find something that helps you on your healthy food journey!
